Tips and Tricks : Fedora Linux Distribution

I've been using this linux distro since I started using open source technology. I've also influenced my colleagues to us this for development purposes. Due to everything you need on developing application under open source standard is readuly available on this distro. It's like having an RedHat Linux free version.

One thing though is that out of the box it doesn't support third party packages. You'll need to stretch you technical skills to play an MP3 format music under Fedora.

Good thing that someone already complied a good How To's on this case.

Check out: http://www.gagme.com/greg/linux/f9-tips.php

In the link above you'll have a step by step procedure on how will you tweak your Fedora distro.

Like the following:
# Install MP3 plug-in
# Install Macromedia Flash/Shockwave Plug-in
# Install DVD player
# Install MPlayer Media Player
# Install VLC (VideoLAN Client)
# Install RealPlayer 10 Media Player
# Install Java J2RE and Mozilla Plug-in
# Install NTFS driver
# Install Internet Explorer

Enjoy and have fun. Just a word of advise if you break something it's not my fault. I'm just giving an option. But in my experience I've never experienced breaking my Fedora installation.

Sports : Airsoft as a Sport

Airsoft is a hobby/sport/discipline, wherein replica firearms (pistols, assault and sniper rifles, etc.) that shoot 6mm plastic rounds, are used for personal collection, gaming (similar to Paintball), or professional training purposes (Military Simulations and Police training exercises). The difference between airsoft firearms and BB guns is that the former uses plastic bullets and have muzzle velocities of less than 500 feet per second (FPS) on average, which is generally considered safe/non-lethal when used in a controlled environment. BB guns utilize metal ammunition and shoot at higher velocities (up to, and over 1000 FPS), making them unsuitable for gaming and training purposes.

Airsoft games vary greatly in style and composition depending on location, budget, and the quantity of participants but often range from short-term skirmishes and organized scenarios to military simulations and historical reenactments.

Combat situations on the battlefield often involve the use of common military tactics to achieve the objectives set in each game. Participants typically use varying types of non-lethal weaponry designed as replicas of real firearms, tactical gear, and accessories used by modern military and police organizations.

T.V. : Ghost Whisperer Season 5 Episode 10

Title : Excessive Forces

To start with my review, I'll give this episode a score of 7. Not a to suspense episode on this case. Not also a scary one. But the plot will keep on watching the episode up to the end. A lot of twists and turns all through out the episode.

As I've mentioned on my last review from the last episode. I thought there would be an additional character to be added on the cast. But on this episode it was not the case. I hope that they will add Det. Sam Blair on the cast.

This episode is about a High school student whom apparently died due to skateboarding accident. This is when Melinda gets started on the real cause of his death. Jim had a bad feeling on this case due to he's very much worried with Melinda's safety due to a cop involvement and series of events that might added suspicions.

Not a very good episode but worth it to watch.

Photography : HDR Photography

High dynamic range imaging. In image processing, computer graphics, and photography, high dynamic range imaging (HDRI or just HDR) is a set of techniques that allow a greater dynamic range of luminances between the lightest and darkest areas of an image than standard digital imaging techniques or photographic methods. This wider dynamic range allows HDR images to represent more accurately the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes ranging from direct sunlight to faint starlight.

The two main sources of HDR imagery are computer renderings and merging of multiple photographs, which in turn are known as low dynamic range (LDR) or standard dynamic range (SDR) images. Tone mapping techniques, which reduce overall contrast to facilitate display of HDR images on devices with lower dynamic range, can be applied to produce images with preserved or exaggerated local contrast for artistic effect.

In photography, dynamic range is measured in EV differences or stops, between the brightest and darkest parts of the image that show detail. An increase of one EV or one stop is a doubling of the amount of light.

High-dynamic-range photographs are generally achieved by capturing multiple standard photographs, often using exposure bracketing, and then merging them into an HDR image. Digital photographs are often saved in a camera's raw image format, as 8 bit JPEG output clips the dynamic range.

Any camera that allows manual over- or under-exposure of a photo can be used to create HDR images.

Technology: Google Wave

Have you heard the newest and coolest application ever invented on the web. Well if not you need to watch this video to understand.

Technology is just keeps on getting better and better this day. They way of communication getting more and more simpler than before. On this demo by the Google wave team, they have demonstrated on how can a simple message be a collaborative work by a group of person who's on what they called "Wave". They have presented cool extensions like bug tool reporting which is link to a bug tool server. The blogger api in which you can update your blog using this application. And the most coolest extension is the translator called "Rosy". It translate the word for word as you type it. They also have an extension to update your twitter tweets.

This will change on hoe we usually communicate with friend and colleagues. For now the Google wave account is currently limited in preview. You would need to ask for an invite before you can get an account or have your existing google account activated for this service.

And one of the coolest part of this is that it is open-source, you can have you own Google Wave server setup on your own data center and use it internally. But you're not limited to internal communications because you can still communicate outside your internal Wave server on the Google Wave server. How cool is that. I think this was Google will never worry on expanding their servers for multiple users. Organizations can just have their own servers internally.

This is really amazing and I can't wait to try it on my own. Just need to wait for their response on the invitation request.

Sports : Mayweather-Pacquiao fight is on the way

Video Source: ABS-CBN News
ABS-CBN News Article : http://abs-cbnnews.com/sports/12/04/09/arum-gives-smile-pacman-mayweather-bout

Tentatively the bout is set on March 13, 2010. But as of now this is still under negotiations. As per Yahoo Sports article "Mayweather-Pacquiao fight nearly finalized" Bob Arum is still negotiating with Team Pacquiao on this deal.

However Pacquiao already filed a COC(Certificate of Candidacy) to run for Congress in the Philippines on May 10, 2010 election. This could be a big reason on why the bout be moved on the later part of the year 2010.

In my own opinion Pacquiao should just continue boxing and leave the politics behind. He can still serve the people even if he's not into politics. It would be better than serving the people with a mixture of political aspects. If I can suggest, Pacquiao should create a foundation to help the people in need, it will be much credible.

More power to you Manny! You've make us Filipinos proud!

Technology : Social Networking site FRIENDSTER has a new look

When I tried to check my account on friendster I thought I've incorrectly put the URL and got me to a different website. When I double check I've put the correct URL but noticeably the look and feel is completely new. I tried logging in and it is still friendster indeed.

When you logged in, you'll notice the home page is overhauled. Profile page nothing much was change. Friends tab has a new look as well. One very noticeable part is the shout-out. It's kind a like a status on Facebook, also the "activity stream" is like the "status updates" on Facebook. A lot of comparable aspects but we can still say that Friendster was first from Facebook.

The thing is that Friendster become stagnant on updating their site and got left behind on the latest trends and updates on technology. A lot of friendster user can still say that it serve its purpose to connect with friends. Facebook on the other hand has put in a lot of features on their site that makes them much popular than friendster.

Technology : Dual 10.1 LCD screen laptop by Kohjinsha

I've been reading an article from slashdot.org and I've came a cross this review on a dual 10.1 LCD screen laptop. It really caught my attention as I've never seen a dual screen laptop. I know IBM have this extended LCD screen called "Lenovo Thinkpad W700ds series" in which an additional 25% of workspace is offered.

On this case its like having a super wide LCD screen. At first glance you wouldn't notice the added feature on this laptop. But when you slide the LCD screen you'll be surprise to find another LCD beneath it. Its a 100% additional workspace offered. Base on this review I read is that they will offer this for $999 US Dollars.

Watch the Video below to appreciate.

"Other features, according to Kohjinsha, include: an AMD Athlon™ Neo MV-40 ( 1.6GHz ) processor, 1GB of memory (with a max of 4GB), a 160GB 2.5 inch SATA hard drive, an ATI Radeon™ HD 3200 internal graphics accelerator, a wireless LAN + Bluetooth, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, and Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit."

Tips and Tricks : Want to know if your PC/Laptop is compatible with Windows 7

I have the same dilemma on this matter. But I've come a cross a small forum wherein they discussed this. Most of the responders suggested this link http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/get/upgrade-advisor.aspx. So I've tried it on my Compaq V6000 laptop and to my surprise, my laptop is compatible for an upgrade from Vista to Windows 7.

Only one driver is not compatible, it is for the quick launch button which I never really use at all. I'm just waiting for a right time and date on when I will upgrade my Vista to Window 7.

I'll be posting an article on the step by step procedure on how I will upgrade it.

Watch out for it...
